Never buy bread crumbs again!!!!! How much bread have you thrown away over the years? When your loaf of bread is expired or about to expire, don't throw it away. Make bread crumbs. It is so easy to do. You can use the bread crumbs for a crunchy topping, coating, or mix-in for dishes like breaded chicken, casseroles, meatballs or so much more.
What type of bread crumbs do you prefer?
- Cubes aka Croutons (For cubes you will have to pre-slice the bread before baking).
- Crumbs (Bowl, Food processor or Blender maybe required).
Ingredients:
-Expired Loaf of Bread (White, Wheat, Potato, gluten-free, low carb, hamburger rolls etc)
-Your favorite dried herb such as garlic powder, pepper, Italian seasoning (oregano, parsley, basil, salt, etc).
Directions:
Preheat the oven on 250 degrees.
I like to use tongs to place bread slices directly on oven racks. Before putting the bread in the oven I like to add some of my spices. I will add more after baking.
Bake about 20 to 30 minutes or 10 to 15 for cubes until hard and golden brown. Note: Half way through baking turn over slices of bread or toss your cubes. You can bake them darker if you prefer.
Let bread cool for 10 to 15 minutes. It should look something like the picture below.
Add slices of bread and spices to bowl of food processor until reduced to crumbs, or process longer for finer crumbs.
Transfer to an air tight container for storage. You can store the bread crumbs in the freezer if you like.
